But but but also what does it say about the state of pop music that 7 out of the top 10 “public figures” on Facebook are pop stars?

…And that none of them can sell a damn record? The times, they are a-changing.

Yeah, the gap between people’s interest in pop stars and people’s willingness to buy pop music* is amazing. But I’ve seen a few pundits say “Well, music isn’t as important any more”, and my hunch is that isn’t the case. It would actually be more hopeful for the record industry if it was, in a funny way.

*though the biggest names on Facebook are also the biggest tracks sellers, I think.
